The Manufacture hosts two masterclasses for dance professionals and high-level amateurs, as part of Steps, Dance Festival of the Pour-cent culturel Migros.
The company stands for its pantsula culture, which emerged from the Apartheid regime in the townships of South Africa. Like Hip hop, Pantsula is a way of life, embodying fashion, music, dance, gestures and language, practiced and freely expressed on the streets. Buru Mohlabane, the artistic director, shares an innovative approach to this style of dance. He combines a form of non-acrobatic but impressively fast Hip hop, Tap Dance, Step and Gumboot, a dance invented by miners, which involves stamping and tapping the body.
