Publication of the book Becoming Sensitive: Practicing and Thinking the Stage by Julie-Kazuko Rahir
Composed of around fifty letters addressed to an actor, a dancer, and a stage director—each conceived as an exercise to be explored—Becoming Sensitive weaves together professional experiences and personal events. Through her long-term research, Julie-Kazuko Rahir, an actor and theatre scholar, develops practical tools to support actors’ work, tools that any reader can engage with. She examines the vocabulary used in rehearsal rooms, questions the recurring difficulties faced by performers, and considers space, time, and the movement of thought and emotion. Her approach, informed by the somatic Feldenkrais Method, makes it possible to observe multiple transformations, both within oneself and in relation to others.
