    Sustainable processes in performing arts

How can the aggradation process developed in permaculture be transposed to dance practice?

In this research, the choreographer Gregory Stauffer will try to transpose 7 of the 12 principles of permaculture into artistic processes. This transposition will take place on an open-air site in Biel from June 2021 to May 2022, partly as a solo project, partly in collaboration with guest artists, and partly with the second year students of the Bachelor in Contemporary Dance at La Manufacture (class F). The ultimate goal is to establish practical and conceptual pedagogical contents that will be transmitted starting from Fall 2022.

The theoretical axis of this research explores the possibilities of conducting earthly artistic practices free from a capitalist ideology and its designs of transhumanist and spatial expansions. It is mainly based on Silvia Federici's book Beyond the Borders of the Body (2020) and Bruno Latour's Where to Land? The artistic axis is inspired by the works of the sculptor Andy Goldsworthy, the choreographer Anna Halprin and the visual artists Marjetica Potrc and Marguerite Kahrl, all of whom, in their own way, have experienced creation outside of classical institutional contexts and reaffirmed the anchoring of artistic gestures in and for life.
