    Jolie Ngemi

Jolie Reymond Ngemi is a dancer, choreographer and musician who lives in Switzerland and works all over the world. A Congolese national, Jolie began dancing in the Protestant church in Kinshasa. At the age of 17, she met the choreographer Jacques BanaYanga, who helped her deepen her knowledge of contemporary dance.

In 2008, she began creating the show "Mist" by choreographer Thomas Steyeart. The show toured in Africa and Europe. In 2011, she collaborates with Ula Sickle and Yann Leguay for a solo called "Jolie", created in South Korea (Seoul) and then shown throughout Europe. In 2012, she was invited to the United States to represent African women at the New York Live Arts Festival.

In 2013, she joined P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels, where she trained for two years. She was then spotted by the choreographer Boris Charmatz, with whom she produced two shows: "Danse de nuit" and "10,000 gestures", which toured internationally.

Since then she has started her own work based on voice, texts and the body in space. In 2018 she created the solo "Identity na ngay" and performed at the festival la Bâtie in Geneva. The show has been presented in Basel, Brussels and Utrecht. It is a project that gives a voice to the women of the world, and where she acts as a spokesperson for those communities that do not dare to speak.

In 2019, she performed several wandering performances outside Brussels and gave workshops at the Tictac cultural centre. Since 2020, she has also been teaching at the Amsterdam Academy. In April of the same year, she created a new piece with Serge Koulibaly called "Wakatt" with 10 dancers.

She is currently leading a festival project in her native Congo, in Kinshasa.
